 About the Position

The Vice President Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will be responsible for leading the human resources for the Global Commercial & Corporate Affairs function. This person will report to the Executive Vice President, Human Resources and partner closely with the Executive Vice President, Global Commercial & Corporate Affairs, as a member of both the Gilead Human Resources Leadership Team and the Commercial & Corporate Affairs Leadership Team.  

  

As the lead human resources business partner for the Commercial & Corporate Affairs, this role will provide proactive HR leadership and consultation to the EVP, and business groups supporting leaders and employees of the organization and will lead the HR function supporting ~4,000 employees worldwide. With a high level of autonomy, the VP HRBP will be a strategic, visionary leader who is a proactive thinker and brings pragmatic solutions. The successful candidate will be a broadly qualified, highly talented and strategic leader with significant broad-based HR experience at well-respected institutions. The Vice President, Human Resources will have the intellect and credibility to ensure strong connectivity with the leaders across Commercial & Corporate Affairs as well as Gilead.   

  

The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in the organization and bring proactive solutions to the leadership team regarding their human capital needs. This leader must have an understanding of key human resource functions and processes, with a focus on growth, organizational culture, as well as business objectives and strategies. Credibility, business partnering, innovative perspective, ability to execute and a collaborative approach are keys to success.   

  

The role will be located in Gilead’s headquarters in Foster City, California.  

  

Key Responsibilities  

  • Provide strategic human resources expertise to the Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Executive Vice President, Global Commercial & Corporate Affairs and their respective senior leadership teams to maximize organizational performance.  

  • Play an integral part of the Commercial & Corporate Affairs leadership team, bringing credibility and business knowledge to be consulted and actively contribute to overall business decisions.  

  • Lead a team of senior Human Resources Business Partners in all global regions by articulating a clear vision and supporting the overall organizational and HR model.  

  • Serve as a partner to business leaders. Ensure progressive human resource programs that have practical, measurable impact and, most importantly, provide business value. Advance the function by creating a strong sense of urgency for delivering results.  

  • Serve as a transformational change agent by leading and sponsoring approaches that encourage effectiveness and flexibility across the organization. Lead change management and cultural integration efforts required to continually transform the culture to one that is action- and patient-focused.  

  • Act as a trusted advisor, coach, and consultant for senior leaders to improve their performance through leadership capabilities, strategic thinking, change management skills, and effective employee relations management.  

  • Ensures organizational success in complex business situations such as a mergers acquisitions, workforce buildouts, and reorganizations.  

  • Influences leaders to make changes in organizational structure or processes to support growth within the organization.  

  • Responsible for identifying the need for HR programs or strategies to support business objectives, as well as strategic direction.  

  • Serves as an integrated part of the business, working with and advising the managers of respective client groups to align with and assist in accomplishing broader business objectives 

  • Partners with the Gilead HR COEs to deliver services to the business in the areas of organizational development, performance management, total rewards, employee relations, training and development and talent acquisition.  

  • Participates and leads global HR initiatives including taking the lead on HR projects within the client group.

  • Partner with EVP HR and EVP Commercial & Corporate Affairs as a strategic thought leader, helping to assess and implement effective people initiatives that enable Gilead’s business strategy.  

  • Develop and mentor a strong HR team that drives greater functional accountability and implements a higher level of partnership and HR delivery across the business areas 

  • Foster an innovative, agile and performance-based culture. Align HR practices around a common set of processes to drive a continuous improvement mentality.  

  • Serve as a vital and integral part of Gilead’s HR function and leadership and enable Global HR strategic priorities.  

  • Build a strong, trusted HR team that is focused on adding value to the business, coaching and developing leaders and breaking down organizational barriers.  

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred. 

  • 15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with demonstrated success as an HRBP, including COE experience supporting business teams in biotechnology/ pharma companies in a complex, matrixed environment. 

  • Proven track record in driving organizational transformation, talent strategies, and HR operating model adoption at scale. 

  • Strong business acumen, executive presence, and ability to influence at all levels of the organization. 

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. 

  • Experience working with or within Centers of Excellence and Shared Services HR structures is highly desirable.
